James Young M.M.
Lance Sergeant James Young Military Medal, 1st battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), Carron & Carronshore, Operation Georgette, to the Germans, or the Battle of the Lys to the British, opened on 9 April 1918. This was a large scale battle with a front line of some 37km’s that stretched from the La Bassee Canal almost to the gates of Ypres. Casualties on the British and Commonwealth side totalled 82,000 dead, wounded, missing or taken prisoner.

William Waugh
Private William Waugh, King's Own Scottish Borderers, Carron & Carronshore, Falkirk, Operation Georgette, to the Germans, or the Battle of the Lys to the British, opened on 9 April 1918. The 1st KOSB War Diary records that they arrived in Neuf Berquin at 11am and remained in their billets until 5pm. During the day a German plane was brought down by fire from ‘D’ Company Lewis gun. George Walker
Private George Walker, 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders, Carron, Carronshore, Falkirk, He was a member of the Stirlingshire Volunteers and enlisted in the Gordon Highlanders on 11 November 1914 and was sent to France on 3 December 1914. Before enlisting he was employed as a pattern filer by the Carron Company and was Secretary of the National Union of Gas Workers and General Labourers.

William Smith
Private William Smith, 1st Battalion Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, Carron, Carronshore, He was employed as a moulder at Mungal Foundry. He was a member of the Kinnaird Band and of the old Carron Band of which his father had been Band Sergeant. William was a Special Reservist having spent eight years in the regular army and a further four as a reservist.

David Darling Runciman
Private David Darling Runciman, 7th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, Carron, Carronshore, Falkirk, the Battalion arrived in Flanders Here, south of the canal, they also faced the next phase in the German spring offensive named ‘Georgette’ with their line facing the ruined village of Hollebeke and running from the Stables of the now ruined White Chateau - Delbske Farm - Ravine Wood - southern edge of Denys Wood - Godezonne Farm

Henry Miller
Private Henry Miller, Seaforth Highlanders, Carron, Carronshore, Falkirk, The 15th (Scottish) Division was moved forward to support the attack on Frezenberg Ridge. The attack of the 16th (Irish) Division had stalled in front of the German strong points at Beck House and Borry Farm. On the 17 August 46th Brigade took over the whole of the right sector of V Corps front from the 16th (Irish) Division.

David McLuckie
Private David McLuckie, 2nd Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, Carron, Carronshore, The 2nd Battalion KOSB, had already been involved in heavy fighting on the 17 and 18 April to take Hill 60, when the British blew five mines before taking the Hill, and had sustained 220 casualties during this attack. A further 260 casualties were sustained in stemming the subsequent German advance that had commenced on 22 April.

Charles Johnstone
Private Charles Johnstone, 6/7th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, Carronshore, Falkirk, On the evening of the 19 July the War Diary recorded that Gas bombs for the Livens Projector (trench mortar) were carried up and placed in the front line. A patrol went out at 11pm and they found that the German wire was cut up and offered little resistance. They also noticed that the German front line was empty and no movement could be seen in their trenches.

Andrew McKendrick
Private Andrew McKendrick, 6th Battalion Black Watch, Carronshore, Falkirk, The 51st (Highland) Division was in the line preparing for the opening of Third Ypres on 31 July 1917. The 51st (Highland) Division had been allotted a front of fourteen hundred yards and the final objective was the Steenbeek River which was about two thousand yards behind the German front line. William McDonald
Private William McDonald, Seaforth Highlanders, Carronshore, Falkirk, The 4 October was the opening day in the Battle of Broodseinde and the 4th Division, part of 5th Army, were attacking the village of Poelcappelle which was on the left of the main attack by the ANZAC Divisions, who were tasked with taking Broodseinde Ridge.

John McDonald
Private John McDonald, 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, 10th Brigade, Carronshore, Falkirk, On the 24 May the 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders relieved the 1st Battalion Royal Warwicks in the line extending from Wieltje to St Julien road some 400 yards south with the 2nd Battalion Dublin Fusiliers on their left and the 1st Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers on their right.....

James Huskie
L/Cpl James Huskie, 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Carronshore, Falkirk, He was employed as a pattern fitter in Mungal Foundry. He was a member of the Carronshore Company of Volunteers for a number of years and enlisted in September 1914 and landed in France with the 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders on 15 December 1914.

Thomas Hannah
Private Thomas Hannah, 8th Battalion Black Watch, Carronshore, Falkirk, On the 8 May 1916, the 8th Battalion Black Watch was in the line at Ploegsteert Wood. They were relieved that evening at 9pm and moved into billets at Creslow Farm. The War Diary records the casualties for the 8 May as one Other Rank killed but there is no mention of the circumstances of how the death occurred. Edward Easton
Private Edward Easton, 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Bothkennar, Carronshore, Falkirk, He was wounded on 24 July 1916 on the Somme, gun shot wound to the neck and face and was admitted to the Base hospital at Rouen being transferred to Etaples on 29 July. He rejoined the Battalion on 6 September 1916. He was admitted to hospital again in April 1917 as a result of his old wound and later rejoined the Battalion on 25 April 1917.

Andrew Brown Cunningham
Private Andrew Brown Cunningham, 6th Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers, The 6th Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers was in, what was considered to be a quiet sector on the Franco-Belgian border at Le Touquet, which was about two miles south east of Ploegsteert Wood, On 21 April 1916, the Germans shelled Le Bizet church attempting to bring down the church tower and also shelled the houses which were being used as billets.

Alexander F Buist
Private Andrew F Buist, 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Carronshore, Falkirk, Husband of Jessie Ferguson Buist, Carronhouse, Carronshore Road. They had two children Thomas born on 26 July 1913 and Alexander who was born on 1 August 1915, tragically three months after his fathers death. Before mobilization Alexander was employed as an engineer by G & J Weir of Cathcart, Glasgow having served his apprenticeship in the engineering department at the Carron Compan
