Ebenezer Reid Rennie M.M.
Private Ebenezer Reid Rennie M.M., 5th Battalion Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. He was employed at the Clydesdale Bank in Larbert before he joined up at the age of 18 in June 1917. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field when a despatch runner during the fighting around Meteren in July 1918. His brother Peter, serving with the Gordon Highlanders was the first man from Larbert to be awarded the DCM.

Private Thomas Rae, ‘A’ Company, 16th Battalion Royal Scots, Stenhousemuir.Husband of Joan Rae, West Park, Main Street, Stenhousemuir. They had a son James born on 19 March 1914. Thomas was the son of the late James and Christina Rae, Hawthornden, Roslin. He was born in Ballnigall, County Galway, Ireland. He had a sister and brother and two step brothers. Robert Philip
L/Cpl Robert Philip, 17th Battalion Royal Scots, Stenhousemuir. Prior to enlisting in the Scots Greys (2nd Dragoon Guards) in August 1914, he was employed as a gardener at Larbert House. He was severely wounded in January 1916 and on recovering from his wounds was transferred to the Royal Scots in December 1916. He had three brothers who were also serving. L/Cpl Robert Murray, ‘A’ Company, 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. Prior to enlisting on 7 September 1914, he was employed as a moulder by Jones and Campbell. One of his brothers was a Private in the Army Service Corps.

Albert Duff Milne
Private Albert Duff Milne, 1/6th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. He was employed as a moulder with Dobbie, Forbes & Company, Larbert before enlisting in September 1916. Some years before the war he was also a prominent footballer in the district having played for Stenhousemuir and East Stirling Football Club.

Donald McLeod
Gunner Donald McLeod, 466th Battery, 65th, Army Field Artillery Brigade, Stenhousemuir. Donnie McLeod, signed for Celtic from Stenhousemuir on 10 May 1902 and played six seasons making 155 appearances, in a glorious era, and eventually took over from the well-loved Barney Battles in the Celtic side. From the off in his debut, a 2-1 victory over Third Lanark, he was to be a regular in the first team that season and then for much of his time at Celtic.

John McFarlane
Private John McFarlane, 4th/5th (Angus and Dundee) Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), Stenhousemuir. The Battalion is the descendent of the pre-Territorial 1st and 2nd Volunteer Battalions of the Black Watch. In 1859 the 1st Forfarshire (Dundee) Rifles were formed and in 1881 joined to the Black Watch and given the title of 1st (City of Dundee) volunteer Battalion The Black Watch.

William McEwan
Private William McEwan, 'C' Company, 10th Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. He originally enlisted in the local 1/7th Territorial Battalion on the 7 September 1914 and went with the Battalion to France on 15 December 1914. On the 23 February 1915 he was hospitalised in Steenwerck with frostbitten feet, then transferred to Baillieu and from there went to Rouen and on 9 April to the UK to the 3rd General Hospital in Wandsworth for 15 days....

David Meldrum Langlands
Private David Meldrum Langlands, 16th Battalion, Welsh Regiment, Stenhousemuir. Before enlisting in January 1917, he worked in his father's drapery business on Main Street, Stenhousemuir. The 38th (Welsh) Division was engaged in the Third Battle of Ypres which had been going on since 31 July 1917. Charles Laird
Private Charles Laird, ‘A’ Company 1/7th Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. He was employed as a gratefitter by the Carron Iron Company before he enlisted in the Territorial Battalion on 7th September 1914. He also played right back for Stenhousemuir Hawthorn F.C. His body was exhumed from Cottage Garden Cemetery at St Jean after the war and reburied at White House Cemetery.

William Hamilton
Private William Hamilton, 2nd Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. William, who was employed as an Iron Moulder, enlisted in February 1909 at the age of 18. During his service he had minor infractions for drunkenness, being absent from the parade and causing a nuisance in his barrack room. Alexander Graham
Private Alexander Graham, 1/5th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. He was employed by James Jones and Sons Ltd, Larbert Sawmill, Larbert before he enlisted in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders later transferring to the Seaforth Highlanders. Before the war, Alick was a prominent member of the Stenhousemuir Cricket Club for 20 years and was one of the best all rounders in Scotland. Being equally good with the bat as well as bowling....

James Gardiner
Private James Gardiner, 10th/11th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, Stenhousemuir. James was employed as a miner at Carronhall Colliery before he attested in April 1917. Operation Georgette, to the Germans, or the Battle of the Lys to the British, opened on 9 April 1918. Thomas Foote
Private Thomas Foote, 11th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. He was employed as an iron grinder and was a Special Reserve in the Royal Scots joining on 24 July 1911 before he enlisted in the Argyll’s in October 1913 and joined the 2nd Battalion. On 17 February he fraudulently obtained an extension to his furlough, claiming that his grandmother had died, and was apprehended by the police in Stenhousemuir in civilian clothes on 25 February.

Andrew Dick
L/Cpl Andrew Dick, ‘A’ Company, 11th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. He joined the Argyll’s with his brother John and both were members of the same ‘A’ Company. Andrew was posted as missing in action on 22 August. John Dick was gassed in May 1915 and was hospitalised. When discharged from hospital he was posted to the 1st/5th Battalion Argyll’s in Palestine where he was killed in action on 8 August 1917 and listed as missing. His name appears on the

James Tod Kedslie Dea
Private James Tod Kedslie Dea, 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. James lodged at 5 Rae Street, Stenhousemuir. James was on the teaching staff at Larbert Central School. He had two older brothers and two older sisters. He enlisted in the local Territorial battalion shortly after war was declared having previously served for four years in the Stirling County Volunteer Service being discharged voluntarily.

Francis Crombie
Corporal Francis Crombie, Gordon Highlanders, posted to the 2nd/14th Battalion, London Regiment, (London Scottish), Stenhousemuir. He was serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps when he landed in France on 1 August 1915 and was later transferred to the Gordon Highlanders. He is buried next to Private Robert Shepherd Grave 1.F.1 from Polmont. He also served with Francis in the RAMC before transferring to the Gordon Highlanders.

Andrew Kidd Chesney
Private Andrew Kidd Chesney, ‘B’ Company, 1/7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Stenhousemuir. He was employed as an apprentice engineer in ‘E’ Department in the Carron Iron Works. Joseph Blair
Private Joseph Blair, 19th Company, Machine Gun Corps, Stenhousemuir. He was employed by Mrs Eadie & Sons, bakers, Stenhousemuir.
He attested in July 1916, joining the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. In September 1917, the 19th Company was ordered forward with the 248th Company to Dickebusch, were they encamped, and began to construct barrage positions in the Stirling Castle area near the Menin Road.

Francis Adrian
Corporal Francis Adrian had been a regular for 11 years and was on the Reserve list and employed as an iron dresser at Callendar Iron Works when war was declared and immediately re-enlisted. He landed in France on 17 September 1914. The 1st Siege Battery saw action at Mons, Marne, Aisne, First Ypres. The Siege Batteries were employed behind the front line and their role was to destroy enemy artillery, supply routes, railways and stores and putting down fire on strong points.
