William Kerr
L/Cpl William Kerr, ‘B’ Company, 10th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Larbert, Falkirk. Before he enlisted on 22 February 1915 he was employed as an apprentice moulder by Jones and Campbell of Larbert. He had two brothers also serving Lance Corporal James Kerr, Argyll’s, and Private Daniel Kerr, Royal Scots who had been wounded three times.

Robert J Heggison
Private Robert Heggison, 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders, Larbert. Before enlisting in the Gordon Highlanders in Aberdeen on 10 November 1914, he was employed as a Warehouseman. He sailed from Southampton on 5 March 1915 joining the 1st Battalion on 11 March.

Andrew Guthrie
Private Andrew Guthrie, 6/7th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, Larbert. The 15th (Scottish) Division was preparing for the attack on the Frezenberg Ridge as part of the Third Battle of Ypres. Attempts had already been made to take the ground on 31 July and with minor gains. At 9.30pm on the 21 August the 6/7th Royal Scots Fusiliers took up their positions allotted to them at Bill Cottage, some 150 yards behind Frezenberg Ridge, and dug in.

James Gordon
Private James Gordon, ‘B’ Company, 1/9th Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Larbert. He was employed as joiner before he enlisted on 11 September 1914 in Dumbarton. His brother Francis enlisted in August 1914 in the 8th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, number S/8124. His Battalion, then 8/10th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, was involved in the attack on Frezenberg Ridge on the opening day of the Third Battle of Ypres. Francis died of a gunshot wound and pneumonia.

Francis Morrison Grant
Private Francis Morrison Grant, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, Larbert. His brother Private Robert Grant, 1/7 Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders was wounded in the right thigh on 25 April 1915 and was in Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow. Francis landed in France on 3 January 1915 and joined his Battalion.

Thomas Gardner
Private Thomas Gardner, 'A' Company, 7th Battalion, Black Watch, Larbert. Before being called up Thomas was a baker with the Bonnybridge Cooperative Society for two years and before that he had been a baker with the Larbert Cooperative Society for thirteen years.

Charles Bell Craig
Private Charles Bell Craig, 49th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), Larbert. Before enlisting he was employed by the Alloa Coal Company as an engineer at the Carnock Colliery.

Peter Carmichael
L/Cpl Peter Carmichael, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers, Larbert. Peter worked in a market garden in Duntocher before he enlisted on 12 January 1917. On 23 July 1917, he passed the class to become a Regimental Bomber, he was qualified to throw hand grenades. He was wounded in action twice, on 10 April 1918 and again on 8 August 1918.

William Baird
Private William Baird, 1st Battalion, Queens Own (Royal West Kent Regiment), Larbert. His father was an engineer who lived in Glasgow when William was born in 1899 in Helensburgh. His mother was a teacher who lived originally in Westpark, Larbert. Interestingly, his mother returned to Larbert after the war and married the Head teacher of Larbert Village School. His first wife had been Helen’s sister. William was resident in Leyton in London when he enlisted.

Daniel George Scott Aitken
Private Daniel George Scott Aitken, ‘B’ Company, 1/7 Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Larbert. He was employed as a moulder at Dobbie, Forbes & Co and enlisted in the 7th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders at the age of 17 years and 11 months on 13 March 1913. Daniel went to France with the Battalion on 15 December 1914.

John Anderson
Private John Anderson, Gordon Highlanders, 1st Battalion, Larbert. Before enlisting on 24 May 1915, he was employed as a Furnaceman with Jones and Campbell Iron Founders, Larbert. He had three older brothers Alex, David and Robert, an older sister Elizabeth and a younger sister Agnes.
