The action leading to his death
On the 11 August the Battalion, as part of 23rd Brigade, took part in an attack at Bellewaarde Ridge with Battalion HQ in Mud Lane trench. They encountered heavy German shell fire however, this did not prevent them from carrying the German front line trenches and moving the front line by half a mile.
