He died of his wounds.

The action leading to his death

The Battalion was located at the Canal Bank dugouts. On the 8 September the War Diary records that they had supplied a working party to strike Camp at Murat and had also been subjected to heavy shelling with 5 Other Ranks killed and 13 wounded.
