Family: Son of Harry and Bruce McPherson, 23 Griffiths Street, Falkirk. Robert had three brothers Harvey, John and James. Prior to enlisting Robert was employed as a wireworker.

The action leading to his death

On the 17 April the battalion was in billets in farms and cottages in the area around Meteren. They were subjected to German artillery fire with the War Diary reporting ‘1 killed and 6 wounded.’

Linesman

Robert died of his wounds at 64 Casualty Clearing Station known as Mendinghem on 18 April. He shares a grave with Company Serjeant Major J W Millar DCM MSM of the same Regiment and who died of his wounds on the same day.
