Lieutenant John George Sherriff

Date of Death: 25.4.15

Family history: Eldest son of the late George & of Catherine J Sherriff of Carronvale and Stenhouse, Larbert. On the death of his father he inherited the estate of Stenhouse. He was educated at Merchiston School, Edinburgh, and Wadham College, Oxford. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Larbert Company of the 7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in 1913. His younger brother, 2nd Lieutenant Alexander Nimmo Sherriff, 1st Battalion, Northampton Regiment, age 20, was killed in action on 30 October 1914 and is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial. His other younger brother Christopher was also commissioned.
