The action leading to his death

On the 16 December 1917 the 245 Company relieved the 150 Machine Gun Company at Tyne Cot and took over the Machine Gun HQ located there. They went into the line east of Passchendaele Road around Graf Farm with the positions consisting of fortified shell holes, small pieces of trench and good cover beneath Graf Farm.
