Family history: Son of William and Christian Marshall. Although he was born in Denny he in lived in Inverkeithing and was married to Annie.
The action leading to his death
The Battalion had been in the line at Montmirail Farm with HQ in Cannes Farm. From the 8 to 10 October, the Battalion was in rest at Wellington Camp near Elverdinghe were they provided working parties for the Royal Engineers in the forward areas. There was a great deal of shelling and this resulted in a number of casualties.
