Family history: Son of David and Jane Taylor, 21 Main Street, Bainsford. James was employed as a grocer with Carron Co-operative Society before he enlisted in Dunkeld. His brother Regimental Sergeant Major John Taylor serving with the 8th Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Australian Division, was killed in action on 20 September 1917 and is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial.
The action leading to his death
The Battalion was in the line in the Zillibeke sector when on the night of the 26 March the Germans attempted to raid the Black Watch line without success. James was one of the 20 Other Ranks who were wounded. He died of his wounds.
