Family history: Son of Malcolm F and Annie Richmond, 71 Dorrator Road, Camelon, Falkirk. He had a brother age 15 and two sisters age 17 and 19 years. He was employed as an electro-plater in the Crown Blast Works in Falkirk. He lied about his age when enlisting in the Territorials on 14 September 1914, his age is recorded on his medical form as 'apparently' 19 years and 3 months. Reporting his death, the Falkirk Herald gives his age as 17 years. He landed in France with the battalion on 15 December 1914.

The 25 April 1915, is a day that brought catastrophe to 7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and to the towns and villages of Falkirk District. The 7th Battalion were seen as Falkirk District’s Battalion. The men were all serving Territorials, work mates and friends.
