Grave I.G11 5083 Air Mechanic 1st Class Robert Shaw 7 Squadron RFC attached 108th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery. Age 19. KIA 15.7.17. Son of Elizabeth and the late Private William Francis Shaw, 39 Kirk Street, Bootle, Liverpool. 108th Siege Battery was formed in the Forth Defences under Army Council Instruction No 397 of 21 February 1916 with a cadre of three officers and 78 men from the Forth RGA. The Forth RGA were mobilised to defend the approaches to the Rosyth Naval Base on the Firth of Forth. It went out to the Western Front on 7 June 1916 armed with four 6-inch howitzers. On 15 July 1917 the 108th Battery was under the command of the 50th HAG for Third Ypres and provided fire support with the role of destroying enemy bunkers and strong points.

Grave I.B.26 2nd Lieutenant Charles Melville Sayer. 4 Squadron RFC. Pilot. Age 23. Kwf 17.6.17. A Canadian he was the son of C. R. and M. E. Sayer, of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Grave I.B.27 2nd Lieutenant George Jones Armitage. Observer. 4 Squadron RFC. Age 20. Kwf 17.6.17. Son of George Troughton Armitage (Capt., Royal Air Force) and Elizabeth Anne, of Pudsey, Leeds, Yorkshire. They were both killed while flying.

Grave V.C.24 3349 Air Mechanic 1st Class Edmund Jones. 21 Squadron RFC. Age 27.KIA 15.8.17.

Grave I.G.32 11369 Air Mechanic 2nd Class William Morley Lloyd. 4 Squadron attached 56th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery. Age 22. KIA 21.7.17. Son of Arthur John and Mary Ann Lloyd, of Leyton, Essex. The Battery was providing fire support and William would have acted as liaison with the ground and aircraft observation.





Grave I.G.10 56486 Air Mechanic 2nd Class Joseph Mee. 23 Squadron RFC. Age 21. KIA 14.7.17. Son of Annie Elizabeth and the late Joseph Mee, 47 Goodale Street, Derby. Grave I.G.9 51128 Air Mechanic 2nd Class Frederick Burlinson. 23 Squadron RFC. KIA 14.7.17. He had been serving in the RAMC and went to France on 21 August 1914. He transferred to the RFC on 16 November 1916.


Grave I.G.1 2nd Lieutenant Frank Ernest Bishop. Pilot. 57 Squadron RFC. Age 20. Kwf 12.7.17. Son of William George Bishop, of Tuffley Avenue, Gloucester. Grave I.G.2 2nd Lieutenant Guy Stuart Ellis. Observer. 57 Squadron. Kwf 12.7.17. They were both killed while flying.

Third Ypres - After training on the new type, the squadron commenced operations near Ypres in June of that year, moving to Droglandt on 12 June and Boisdinghem on 27 June. The squadron joined the 27th Wing, part of the V Brigade Royal Flying Corps, to support the British Army at the Ypres Offensive. The squadron's activities included bombing railway junctions and German airfields during the Battle of Langemarck in August 1917 and reconnaissance duties during the Battle of the Menin Road Ridge in September.

Grave I.E.27 53358 Air Mechanic 2nd Class Thomas Duncan. 4 Squadron RFC attached 120th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery. Age 19. KIA 3.7.17. Son of Robert and Jessie Duncan, 31 Friar Street, Craigie, Perth.
